GIRL TALK with GOD~ONLINE BIBLE STUDY~ANYTIME-ANYWHERE: For women of ALL ages:
Our study is designed for women of all ages who are unable to attend our Ponce Church Womens Bible Study: Get ready to learn about the amazing things God has planned for you! We opened last weeks study with the following scripture:
Jeremiah 29:11-13 nlt “For I know the plans I have for you” says the Lord “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me” “I will be found by you” says the Lord.”
King James says: “You shall call upon me and I will hearken (listen) to you”
Note: Our day to day relationships are much like our relationship with God: we communicate with one another. EX: The first recorded relationship mankind had with God was in the Garden with Adam and Eve. Adam and Eve hung out with God in the garden. Just like you go for walks with a friend or loved one and talk…you can have that same kind of relationship with God. Whether you walk, ride your bike, surf or drive in your car, God loves you and is always available and ready to chat with you anytime, anywhere.
PRAYER or Talking to God plays a tremendous roll in our “relationship” or our “walk” with the Lord.
WHAT IS OUR 1st STEP FOR PRAYER TO BE EFFECTIVE?:
Jesus said in Mark 11:25 “But when you are praying “first forgive” anyone you are holding a grudge against so that your Father in Heaven will forgive your sins too”
Jesus says in Mathew 5:22-24 “But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgement! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell. So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar (prayer) in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. GO AND BE RECONCILED to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God”If there is anything that you have against anyone, get rid of it! Jesus said while you’re praying…forgive…this is crucial to our prayers being effective (answered).Note: Think of it as ingredients to a cake…If you leave out one important element it will not come out the way it is designed or expected.
1. Praying In Jesus’ name means we depend on Jesus for access to God: *Because of the fall of man (Adam & Eve) sin came into the earth. Jesus, our Savior and mediator to our Heavenly Father is our only way to the God: For salvation and for our prayers:
Scripture examples:“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (Jhn 14:6)
*Jesus is our advocate, our only way to God our heavenly Father. Jesus came from heaven, died and was raised to life again all for mankind. He has brought us back into “right standing” with God we are now the “Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus”
“My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate (mediator) who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. (1 Jhn 2:1)
When I shared this scripture, I explained that an advocate or mediator is very similar to a Lawyer, one who goes before the Judge and the jury pleading the case of their client.“Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.” (Eph 3:12)
“So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God ,let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest (Jesus) understands our weaknesses, for he faced ALL of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us com BOLDLY to the throne of our gracious God (prayer). There we will receive his mercy and we will find grace to HELP us when we need it most.”(Heb 4:14,16) After reading this scripture, I used an analogy of one of our young teenage women of how when she wants or needs something, or desires to express herself to her parent(s) she’ll boldly go into the room where they are sitting and state her case or plead her cause. She is not afraid, she simply knows that because she is her parents daughter that she has freedom to approach them for anything. I also stated that God wants us to have that kind of confidence to approach him.
2. Praying In Jesus’ name is our confidence that God hears our prayers: “I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know you have eternal life. And we are confident that HE HEARS US whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. And since we know he hears us when we make our requests (prayer) we also know that he will give us what we ask for.” (1 Jhn 5:13,14)
“I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and he will grant your request because you use my Name (Jesus). You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy.”
If this has helped you in any way, please feel free to leave your comment at the end of this post. Thank you!
Bible Study-Week 2
Connected: Affiliated: being joined in close association
Having the parts or elements logically linked together
In the world we are connected with others more than ever. Especially on the Web with Twitter and Facebook alone. With this new-found technology we are no longer just a phone call away from the ones we love, we are now capable of “connecting” with our friends and family, many times all at once! The power of the internet can immediately “Link or Connect” us to people in our home town and all over the world.
Take facebook for instance: If you have something or someone you need to pray for, you can post it to your friends and I have witnessed that in a matter of minutes you have dozens of people responding with comments like: “I’ll be praying for you.”
Our CONNECTION to and with God is VERY similar: Even Better!
Let’s take a look at what the Bible says in relation to our “Connection or Link” to Him:
John 15: 5-6 “Yes I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in Me (choose to be linked or connected to) and I in them will produce much fruit. Anyone who does NOT remain in Me is thrown away like a useless branch and withers. Such branches are gathered in a pile to be burned-BUT if you remain (stay connected to) in Me and my words remain in you-you may ask for anything you want and it will be granted.” Now that is what I call “connection” with benefits!
Because of what Jesus did for us by going to the cross he made it possible to LINK and CONNECT us back with God. The Bible says that we are ONE with him:
John 17: 11, 21-23: (Jesus prayer to the Father)v11 “Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father you have given me your name, now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be UNITED (CONNECTED-LINKED) just as we are” v20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in Me through their message” v21 “I pray that they(you and me) will all be one, just as you and I are one as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may THEY be ONE IN US so that the world will believe you sent me.” V22 “I have given them the glory you have given me, so they may be ONE as we are ONE. I AM in them and you are in Me…” WOW! You may want to read that one again: When a person decides to believe in Jesus Christ and give Him their life, God and Jesus BOTH come to live inside of us. How? By the person of His Holy Spirit. We are then ONE with God our heavenly Father and Jesus. This my friend is why His love toward us is so strong, this is how we are connected to Him.
Quote: “Once we surrender—Change begins to happen” (a post from a friend on fb) Once we choose to allow him into our lives, amazing things begin to happen: We no longer have to live with the disappointments we’ve become so accustomed to. For example: In the world many times we find ourselves wanting to “connect” with people, places or things—we oftentimes look to these “things” as our “life-source”. Many times we look to people and things to give us joy and happiness and even fulfillment…only to be let down time and time again, leaving us disappointed, lonely and empty. Thanks to Jesus our life does NOT have to be this way:
John 14:23 “All who love Me will do what I say—My Father will Love them and we will come and make our home with each of them—Anyone who doesn’t love Me will not obey Me. And remember my words are not my own—what I am telling you is from the Father who sent me. I am telling you these things while I am still with you v26 But when the Father sends the advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you, “I am leaving you with a GIFT: Peace of Mind & Heart. And the PEACE I give you is a gift the world (people or things) CANNOT give…so don’t be troubled or afraid” Our contentment, joy and peace of mind comes from him. Keep in mind, you will experience a sense of happiness when you look to people or the things of this world, but it never lasts. That is why the world is always looking for that “NEW” thing to help them obtain that feeling of gratification. We’re all guilty of it, but the good news is that Jesus and God our heavenly Father have given us everything we need. Sometimes just being thankful for what we have NOW is all we need to feel good or satisfied.
When we choose to follow Jesus, giving him our WHOLE heart, our very life, then we are LINKED to Him and He said that we could ASK for ANYTHING and he will do it. Basically He promises that He will NOT disappoint! Picture a chain if you will, that chain is made up of “links” In and of themselves they are pretty much useless,
BUT…link or hook them TOGETHER and you have a very powerful source. You can pull cars, boats and trailers with them. Why? Because when they are LINKED together, they are STRONGER and accomplish MORE together than separate. That is how our life with Jesus and the Father can be IF we choose to “abide” in Him or be “Linked” to Him. He said that He would be IN and with us always and would never leave us. He says that we can ask Him for anything and promises to do it. He promises us His Peace and contentment. If we live our lives running after the things of this world (people and things) we will experience disappointment. BUT, if we choose to be linked and connected to Him we will be satisfied and have our hearts desire.
Over the next week I encourage you to read John chapter 16 and 17.Take this time to familiarize yourself with Jesus and the Father. You’ll be amazed to see how much the Lord really loves you.
Please feel free to send me a message or post a comment regarding how this and other posts have blessed and inspired you. Thank you.
